We talk to our children a lot about the importance of helping the environment. But the best way to teach is by example.
Schools now have more options than ever to support companies embracing green initiatives and buy environmentally sound products such as OFM chairs that have been certified by Greenguard. These products have been designed to the strictest green specifications with low chemical emissions to improve indoor air quality and protect children’s health.
At OFM, not only do we offer green products, but we’ve also tried to make the production process good for the environment too. Last year, we installed a 250-kilowatt system of 1,042 solar panels on the roof of our main headquarters in North Carolina.
Through this initiative, OFM is now carbon neutral – and a certified renewable energy facility. The 322,500 kilowatts of energy generated each year at our warehouse are sold to Progress Energy, a major electric utility in the state.
We are also looking at manufacturing future furniture products with green materials such as castor bean oil and studying the benefits of using soy-based foams instead of petroleum.
The next time you’re talking to students about environmental responsibility, you might just start with some of the things they’re using in that very classroom.
Talk about show and tell!
